Freevibe:
Tell us about school…
Heather: I'm currently a senior being tutored at home due to a
heart condition. I plan on attending a local college, focusing my
studies on what I love to do best and my passion: Fighting the Drug
War. I am an avid writer of non-fiction and would like to study
a bit of Journalism, as well.
FV: What other hobbies and interests keep you going?
Heather: Before I incurred heart troubles I actively participated
in field hockey, Peer Leadership, bowling, aggressive inline skating,
cheerleading, snowboarding, skimboarding, and am interested in modeling.
I also help out my younger brothers - with their homework, chat
with them about their day at school, and help find activities for
them to do.
FV: Who do you admire most and why?
Heather: I most admire my grandparents for their willingness and
coaching in everything I do. We share our thoughts and concerns
almost on a daily basis. My grandmother seems to be one of the contributing
reasons as to why I carry on with my strong anti-drug stance, as
she has smoked for as long as I can remember and lives to this day
oxygen dependent to emphysema. My grandfather, once an artist and
graphic designer, has begun to teach me how to airbrush, keep an
orderly stamp and photo collection, and comprehend the stock market.
FV: What are your life-long goals or dreams?
Heather: Goals? What are goals?! Ha hah! Just kidding, of course
I have goals and aspirations!! At this point, it looks like all
of my involvement and desire to be active within the wellness program
and my goals to fight drug and alcohol use will transform into a
lifelong crusade. This is something I plan on continuing, and hope
to make a difference in the long run. I am hoping that my involvement
now will help me in the future, as it is my goal to work within
the Drug Enforcement Agency. In the end, it is ultimately everyone's
personal decision to live a drug-free lifestyle.
FV: How did you get involved With My Anti-Drug?
Heather:
I can honestly say that my anti-drug has been instilled in me since
I was very young. My anti-drug, "My Future," consists
of my outward strong stance and personal convictions pertaining
to drug use, and not being afraid to voice this. I sincerely credit
this to my parents. I believe the part that they took in my upbringing,
making it clear to me at a young age, that drugs and alcohol are
unacceptable, as well as sharing their own experiences) and always
being there for advice and direction.
FV: Have you done other anti-drug activities before showing up here
on Freevibe?
Heather: As a senior, I took on a personal independent study where
I created age appropriate curriculum including the "What's
you anti-drug?" activities, and then eventually educated 4th
graders in my hometown. I believe that if the kids of today learn
about drugs and alcohol at an elementary school age level, they
will become more prepared to face the future of peer pressures,
and just how to deal with it.
Not only will I be handling the introduction of a drug free campaign
within the elementary school, but I will also promote it in my own
school as well. I am running a group called "You Lead,"
with the goal of getting our peers involved in drug free activities,
and promoting a drug and alcohol free life.
FV: Is there anything you want to tell other kids about why you
don't do drugs?
Heather: I have a simple answer for that one! The temptation or
thought of doing drugs or drinking alcohol has never once entered
my head - I simply have better things to do with my time, and have
more fun than anyone could ever have by being intoxicated, risks
excluded! I have seen [drugs] destroy particular family members,
and when it comes down to it...it is simply not worth it. We all
have one life - to dream, fulfill our desires, cherish, stay healthy,
educate, have fun, be young, and most importantly, live…so
why ruin it? It is your life, and up to you from there.
